Immersion Chess is a free-to-play chess game for Windows with SteamVR support, developed and published by Immersion. It was released on Steam on 15 May 2017.[1] The Steam listing names the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift as supported VR headsets and also allows play on a standard computer.[1] Two paid add-ons, "Advanced AI" and "Environment - Space", are sold separately.[2][3]
Overview
The game uses standard chess rules. Players can face computer opponents at several difficulty settings, from beginner-level bots upward, or play online against other people. According to the Steam listing, players using VR and players on a standard computer can compete against each other in real time.[1] The listing also says the computer opponents use an opening book so that they play more like human opponents, and that the game offers selectable alternative backgrounds.[1]
The Advanced AI add-on is described on its Steam page as covering the opening, middlegame and endgame, with an opening book based on more than 300,000 grandmaster games. The Space add-on adds a no-gravity spaceship room as a playing environment.[2][3] The listing marks SteamVR support and tracked controller support.[1]
