Hons VR (stylized HONSVR) is a company that designs and manufactures custom prescription lens inserts for Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality headsets. Rather than building headsets of its own, the company makes corrective lenses that clip into existing devices so that people who normally wear glasses can use a headset without putting their eyeglasses on underneath.[1][2] The company describes its mission as making VR and AR "accessible and comfortable for everyone" and states a goal of becoming "the global leader in prescription solutions for VR and AR."[1]
Hons VR makes lenses for a wide range of headsets and glasses, including the Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest and Oculus Quest models, PlayStation VR, the Valve Index, HP Reverb G2, Pico, Pimax, DJI Goggles, HTC Vive, Xreal, Rokid Max, RayNeo, and Viture.[1][2] The lenses are made to each customer's eyeglass prescription, and the company sells direct to consumers worldwide through its website, with the lenses also offered as an add-on by some headset makers.[2][3] Hons VR is registered with the United States Food and Drug Administration, listing FDA Operator Number 10092895.[1]
Products
Hons VR's products are prescription lens inserts rather than complete headsets. Each pair is ground to the buyer's prescription, which the customer supplies as the standard eyeglass values: sphere (SPH), cylinder (CYL), axis, and pupillary distance (PD).[4] The lenses use high-index material to keep them thin and light, and they come with anti-glare and scratch-resistant coatings as standard, with optional extras such as a blue-light filter for a small added fee.[2][4] For most headsets the inserts attach magnetically, snapping into place over the device's own optics so they can be added or removed without tools.[5] The Apple Vision Pro set is supplied with a storage case and a premium microfiber cleaning cloth.[5] The company offers a money-back guarantee and expedited shipping in the range of three to seven business days.[2]
Prices vary by headset. The table below lists representative products and their starting prices as advertised by Hons VR and its retail partners.
| Product | Compatible device | Starting price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Vision Pro lenses | Apple Vision Pro | 79.95 US dollars | Magnetic insert; high-index lenses, storage case and cloth included; can optionally be made with prism correction on request[5] |
| Xreal lenses | Xreal Air, Air 2, Air 2 Pro, Air 2 Ultra, One, 1S, One Pro | 49.95 US dollars | Anti-glare, scratch-resistant, easy-to-clean and ultra-thin construction; optional blue-light filter[4] |
| Pimax Crystal Super lenses | Pimax Crystal Super | 159.90 US dollars | Sold only as an add-on when buying the Crystal Super or Crystal Light, not separately; provided by Hons VR rather than by Pimax[3][6] |
Partnerships
Hons VR has positioned itself as an official lens partner for two headset makers. The company calls itself "the official partner of XREAL" and a "trusted provider of XREAL prescription lenses," supplying inserts for the full Xreal glasses line from the original Air through the One Pro.[4] It also supplies lenses sold through the Pimax store as an add-on for the Crystal Super and Crystal Light headsets. Pimax describes Hons VR as "a highly regarded VR lens manufacturer, recommended by Pimax users," while making clear that the lenses are "provided by third-party manufacturer HonsVR, not produced by Pimax," and that prescription submission, purchase, shipping, and after-sales service are all handled directly by Hons VR.[6][3]
Reception
In an April 2023 overview, UploadVR noted that Hons VR offered prescription lenses and adapters customized per client for a long list of headsets, including the Meta Quest 2, PSVR 2, Pico 4, the Valve Index, the HTC Vive, the Nreal Air, the HP Reverb 2, and DJI Goggles, alongside other accessories such as headset skins, cables, controller grips, and head straps.[2] Technology writer Jason Cipriani described turning to Hons VR after ZEISS declined his prescription, which contained a prism value, for both the Apple Vision Pro and the Meta Quest 3; he ordered Hons VR lenses for his Quest 3 for 60 US dollars and said the difference between wearing glasses and using the prescription lenses was "night and day."[7] Apple's official ZEISS Optical Inserts are not available for prescriptions that include a prism value, a limitation Apple itself documents.[8] Hons VR states that it can make Apple Vision Pro lenses with prism correction on request. It also notes that because third-party lenses do not carry Apple's optical-insert QR code, the headset must be set to "use without optical inserts" each time it is worn, which it says does not affect the clarity of the image.[5]
