The Oculus Quest 2 (later Meta Quest 2) is a standalone virtual reality head-mounted display developed by Meta (formerly Facebook/Oculus), released October 13, 2020 starting at $299. The first VR headset with Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2, featuring 1832x1920 per eye LCD display (50% more pixels than Quest 1), up to 120 Hz refresh rate, 6 GB RAM, inside-out 6DoF tracking, and optional PC VR via Quest Link (USB) or Air Link (wireless). The best-selling VR headset of all time, bringing VR to mainstream consumers.

History and Development

Meta (then Facebook) announced the Quest 2 at Facebook Connect on September 15, 2020, launching October 13, 2020. Priced $100 less than the original Quest at launch ($299 vs $399), the Quest 2 made standalone VR accessible to mainstream consumers. The white design replaced the Quest 1's black exterior. Updates added Air Link for wireless PC VR, 120 Hz support, and expanded storage options. The Quest 2 became the best-selling VR headset ever, succeeded by the Meta Quest 3 in 2023.[1]
