Flat focus is a property of a display that has a single focal plane that stays still.

All commercially sold VR headsets are flat focus. But it is theoretically possible to make one that has a wide focal range.

Flat focus headsets cause a vergence accommodation conflict if a user tries to focus something up very close or very far away.[1]

Flat focus is generally unsuitable for close work.
