''Ready Player One'' is a Sci-Fi novel written in 2011 by Ernest Cline. The plot centers around a open-world virtual reality metaverse that has replaced most other uses for the Internet. The game, called OASIS, provides functionality for entertainment, business, shopping, gaming, and communication. The book involves many aspects of virtual reality including immersion/haptics/input, potential educational/recreational/business uses, and elements of the metaverse.
